More ORCHIDS from Biltmore

If you missed the last post showing the gorgeous ORCHIDS at the Biltmore House and Gardens in Asheville, North Carolina,  click HERE.   Today I'll show you a few more photos of those beautiful orchids.   Above is a favorite of mine... Love that color!!!  Be sure to enlarge the photos for some bigger pictures.

This little white one is simple ---but oh, how gorgeous... Orchids are hard to grow --unless you live in a tropical area.   When I was younger,  a friend's mother used to grow orchids in her home.  She had a sun room ---and could keep it just the right temperature in order to grow them.  They were gorgeous!!!   In the Conservatory at the Biltmore---they grow them in one of their rooms in which the conditions are perfect for them...  Some of the plants at the Biltmore need a HOT room and some need a cool room.. They offer it all inside the Conservatory.

This purple color just jumped out at me... I love the color, purple,  anyhow ---and this one was beautiful.

Here is another beautiful orchid... I don't know how many different varieties of orchids there are,  but there must be MANY.

I love yellow flowers ---so this one called my name also... Isn't it pretty?

Here is another gorgeous color...  Is this magenta?  Whatever the color is,  these orchids are beautiful...

Hope you enjoyed seeing the orchids from the Biltmore Conservatory.   We are buying season's passes again this next year since we love that place so much.  We hope to do what we did this year and go there during all seasons....

Hope you have a great day.
Hugs,
Betsy

Oh, that third one is my favorite. The purple so deep and yet the little variation that is speckled upon it!
Such a beautiful place. I just read a book (fiction) about a maid living there. (Maid to Match Deeanne Gist) Very cool. All I could think of was you - as I read!

The Orchids are beautiful. My Mother loved Orchids and one of us children always saw to it that she had one or several at her house.

Thanks for saying orchids are hard to grow! I have killed several, and everyone that grows them well says they're so easy!!! These are gorgeous.

All are just beautiful! I am partial to the close up of the purple one, too. Such delicate flowers!

All of these orchids are beautiful, but the purple speckled one wins the prize for most original. It's so vivid and so different from the others. Thanks for sharing, Betsy.

Hi Betsy, My favorite is the yellow. By the way, I was in the Glade this AM at about 9:00 and saw four White-tailed Deer on St. George fairly near where the turn off is to go to the marina. I have never seen deer in that area before. Just a side note. Have a super good day today!

These are stunning! Each one a beauty in its own right- no fair to compare and I don't dare! My orchid is not doing well after our move. It lost two leaves already. I think I may just buy another and start over. A friend of mine has just the perfect greenhouse for them - maybe he can do something with it! It's the pure white one! Love that mottled purple and the feathered yellow!! Thanks for sharing!

I always loved orchids. Did I tell you that Dad always gave my Mom orchids for Mother's Day? She loved them too. Most were similar to the first picture in this blog.

Those yellows and purples are stunning!

The yellow cattleya looks very similar to one I have called Ports of Paradise 'Emerald Isle'... in fact I'm sitting four feet from it right now and it is tremendously fragrant this time of the night. I also enjoy the purple Vanda that you have displayed... I have one that I've rebloomed twice so far... they are a lovely plant! Larry

Hi Betsy, i am sure you've seen them a few times from my older posts on orchid shows here in my city. It is amazing how you at the temperate climates have simulated their growth requirements pretty well, just that you people can appreciate them fully. But do you know that those phytotron or conservatory, you call it, involves a lot of energy. The energy mainly comes from electricity, fossil fuels and 'greenhouse gasses', which now is very alarming for our planet, causing much of our climate changes. And who knows how fast we will be reaping the consequences of peoples' whims and fancies, vanity and pride! Whew! LOL

Oh Betsy, all of the orchids are so beautiful. I love each and every one but the purple speckled one is my favorite. It's nice to see all the beautiful colors right now, we haven't seen the sun is almost a week. Every thing is white from the ice fog but the gray skies are getting a little boring.

Orchids are such a beautiful and exotic flower. They always remind me of Singapore as that is where I saw the biggest and most orchids ever. I love the purple ones in your post.

Orchids are the most amazing flower aren't they? Your photos are incredible Betsy.

Answer to your question sweetie...Many of my sayin's came from my Granny Walden. She was full of 'em. Others are some I've picked up in these hills and hollers for years.

Others just pop into my head at the strangest times and I write 'em down for future use. The 'hungry 300 lb. truck driver at and all you can eat buffet...just flowed while I was writin'.

Now inquirin' minds know! Heeehehehe!!!

God bless ya sweetie! :o)

There are over a hundred thousand different kinds of orchids, and 800 new ones are added each year, I'm not kidding! My favorites are the first one and the yellow one. I love the delicate fringing, it looks like someone pulled a thread on fabric and it started to unravel!

A very nice way Betsy to add color to the approaching holidays, and the grey skies we are having. And thank you for your blog visits as well, i think the camera loves you and it shows. Richard
