More from Amicalola Falls

This past Monday,  I shared the first set of pictures from George's Surprise Birthday trip to Amicalola Falls State Park near Dahlonega, Georgia.  IF you missed them,  please click HERE.   Today,  I will share more pictures from that trip.

Above is a picture from Highway 52  (from quite a distance away) of the top of Amicalola Falls.   We were driving --and all of a sudden, the falls came into view.  Of course we stopped and George got out in the road to take some pictures... Even with the fog,  we had a good view of it... That waterfall was enormous--due to the rain.  Our lodge was located on the top of that mountain above the waterfall (in the fog).

George went outside of the lodge to take some pictures,  and while he was there,  he took the path down to see the TOP of the waterfall.  I didn't know it --but there is a bridge at the top also.  SO--in my last post,  I talked about 2 bridges.  Actually there were THREE.   The picture above shows the falls as they cascade down that mountain.  IF your eyes are good,  you may be able to see one of the bridges below.

We visited Amicalola Falls in May of 2005.   This is what the TOP of the falls (from the 2nd bridge) looked like on that day.  Now look at the next picture!!!  It doesn't even look like the same waterfall,  does it????

The picture above was taken from that same bridge last Wednesday...  Just a little bit more water, don't you think?????? ha

The Birthday Boy is still smiling after climbing up those 175 steps --and then back down....  Pretty good for a 69-year-older, huh???? I am proud of him.

And then there's 'that girl'---huffing and puffing up the mountain.... Oh --by the way,  did I mention that it was RAINING???????? ha ha

Here's one more picture (taken with the long lens)  from the lower bridge --looking up at the upper part of the waterfall... You can see the bridge above where I was standing on the observation area.  That is one huge amount of WATER,  don't you think?????  WOW--wish you could have been there with us to have HEARD that water ROAR.  Even in the pouring rain,  it was fabulous!!!!   (Should have made a video!!! Darn!  Didn't think about it!)

Have a wonderful day---and get out and find some waterfalls!!!!  We have seen over 440 different waterfalls since 2001....  (Talk about 'fools for waterfalls'---that is us!!!!)

Hugs,

Betsy, I just got caught up on your posts. The photos of the falls are incredible. I can hear the roar and feel the spray.
I can stand and just 'be' in the presence of a waterfall (and God) indefinitely---I am so awed and enthrawed by them.

This was a truly wonderful and unigue way to celebrate a birthday!
And yes, that's quite a feat for a 69 year old ---all those steps! :)

Enjoyed Biltmore also, esp. the white cage-like exhibit. I wish I were more creative like that. I would love to see your friend's garden. Does she have a blog and post pics of it?

As far as the testing comment you wrote---I think we are having to teach more to the test and I dislike it. I've just spent 2 weeks reviewing and cramming for the practice test for the freshmen. The teachers who have sophomores have been at it all along this year. I don't like it.

But I love your trips. :)

Hope you have a great day! It's about time for a bird post isn't it? I love them too!

Blessings---Beth

Woah! That is one big, raging waterfall, The sound must have been deafening. What great shots even in the rain. George is a champion, taking on those stairs. Well done. You too huffing up the mountain to get your waterfall fix.
You are motivating me to get out and find some waterfalls. We used to do a lot of NP hiking but since Bill's heart problem we don't go anymore.

More beautiful pictures Betsy. The rainfall surely made the falls swift and furious. Wish I could hear the noise and feel the cool spray! Hope you have a nice day today also.

That is a LOT of water rushing along there, Betsy! Great pictures. Must have been a fun day for you in spite of the rain. :)

I have to travel far to see a waterfall. The midwest, at least where we are, is so flat that there's no place for the water to fall!! I enjoyed your photos--especially the ones with fog bring such nice memories. When I was little, I called it "white air".

Best,
Bonnie

Betsy Good Morning. Hope your day goes well. I just keep thinking about trying to climb up 175 steps. I might get 2/3 of the way up but then would have to take a nap. LOL Wonderful shots.

WOW! I don't think I could make it up 175 steps. My son would probably run up them and say come on Mom!

it is amazing how the falls changes from where you shoot the photo. could be three different falls the way they look. yowsa on the 175 steps. i really like the way the steps follow the falls and the fact they have a warning out. these are great photos

That first picture really shows the scope of that falls and the close ups show the force. Awesome.
Proud of you both for making the trip up and down.
This spring should make all the falls show off their finest. Happy hunting folks.

Looks like they are having lots of water too. Have you been by Ozone with all this recent rain? It is really pouring over, well worth going by to see.

Don't you just love it when the rain makes the waterfalls so full and roaring? Great photographs of a wonderful waterfall. You were so lucky to see the water so high. Must have been a special birthday present for George.

For sound effects of the water maybe using vidoe mode would do the trick? Have you posted videos? I can't remember. But I do love your photos. You are brave to be out and about around spring water. We still have snow and ice and not much plant life is awake but the birds are arriving finally.

big difference in the two pictures of the same view. Both are so pretty though

You have a VIDEO camera?? And you have never posted a video??? How come?? The waterfalls would be perfect!!! The noise of the water, we could see it rushing. I'm going to start posting videos because my new camera has a high def video button on it. I have a dedicated video camera, but that's too much trouble to fool with. I was going to say the first picture is my favorite, but they ALL are!! I love the one of you tromping around in the rain, and brave and strong George!!

I love the depth in the first photo Betsy. Looks like the birthday trip was a success!

The second photo of the cascading falls is just powerful looking; I can hear the surge while I sit transfixed by it.
Betsy, I use to go to a church camp that had a water fall and it was no way near as big and strong looking but I certainly did love it!
It really made me think of that :)

It makes it so much more fun to visit waterfalls when the water is running strongly. You certainly hit it right with this one. A nice birthday gift for George.

You sure look like you're having fun! Those waterfall pics are stunning. Thanks for sharing.

BEAUTIFUL waterfall; your pictures are GREAT! I forget my camera has video capability too!

This rain has definitely made the mountain streams get wild and fast. You all are amazing - - - out there hiking in the rain - - - and some strenuous hiking, too!

JDS said...

Whoa, those falls are big! I've always wanted to go to Amicalola, because I've always wanted to hike the Appalachian Trail and that's where it starts - but it looks like the falls are more than worthy of their own trip.

By the way, thank you for commenting on my blog and asking about the name Wasson. I added my own comment in response to yours, but long story short, it is my wife's maiden name.

Oh that is indeed a lot of water.. it must be spring. I would have never thought to "collect" waterfalls.. 440 is quite the collection.

Thanks for your visit to my blog.. always nice to welcome a new face. :)
