2009 Super Bowl

Are you going to watch the 'big game' today????? Where will you be and what will you do???? George and I will be at home watching the game on our big screen TV. Since my team (Tennessee Titans) didn't make it to the Super Bowl this year, I am not really as interested in the game as I am in the COMMERCIALS. I always enjoy seeing all of the new commercials during the Super Bowl. Do you???? And I'm usually for the underdog team, this year being the Arizona Cardinals.
Football and food go together---so what are you having for dinner or snacks tonight??? We'll cook some Kielbasa on our outdoor grill and supplement that with a baked potato and salad. That's about it for us!!!
I recently got one of those email 'forwards' which go all over the internet. This one caught my eye because it talked about the Arizona Cardinal's Quarterback, KURT WARNER. AND--like so many things on the internet, the article wasn't totally true. BUT--it did say enough about Kurt for me to do some research on him. The more I read, the more I liked that young man and his life--and what he stands for. Wow!

Kurt Warner (pictured above) has become known for his commitment to his family, his clean-kid lifestyle, and his Christian faith. He and wife Brenda live in St. Louis with their SEVEN children. He is the founder of the First Things First Foundation. Kurt feels that he is where he is today because of his belief of NEVER giving up. That is the message he wants to get out there to others. He is living proof of the importance of having a strong faith in God, in himself and in his talents. His formula for success is putting first things first---FAITH and FAMILY.
If you go to the Warner's home, you will not see anything about the father being a professional football player. The home is not a shrine to athletics but a tribute to a family at work and play. The family wrote "Eight RULES
for being a Warner Daughter or Son". One of these rules is that when they dine out at a restaurant, the family agrees on which strangers' meal to pay for. Isn't that incredible????

SO---that is why I am 'rooting' for the Arizona Cardinals tonight... GO Kurt!!!

I am not a football fan, so I will probably not be watching. With that said, I just developed a strong liking for Kurt. Many athletes today think that fame and money somehow gives them an excuse against self and family responsibility. I have deep admiration for those who don't develop that.

Not me but I know many others around here surely will. I hear the buzz going on around here like a swarm of bees!! =D

None of my favs are in it either Betsy, but I will be rooting for the Cardinals, the underdogs! I was so hoping for a Birder's Superbowl with the Cardinals and the Ravens...lol!

Hi Betsy - I hope you & George have a great day! Greg & I will be hanging out at the cabin as long as possible to day and then drive home tonite. I don't think either of our t.v. channels up here will get the game! (And I think this will be the 1st supper bowl my hubby doesn't watch AND doesn't mind! Incredible!)

I will watch even thought the Miami Dolphins are not playing. I was born in PA, so that might make me root for the Steeler; the Cardinals are the underdog and have pretty uniforms, so that might make me root for them. I just hope it's not a blow-out. It's the ONE game I watch each year. I do enjoy the commercials! Thanks for sharing.

Our s-i-l flew up north to be with his buddy and watch the game together! If hubby has it on, I'll sit and watch too. Otherwise, I'm not a fan.

I really like the fact that you check out e-mail forwards! Me too! If I forward something because I like the story, I will ALWAYS remove the stupid guilt-tripping lines in there. Why people put them in there is beyond me! I really like what you found out about Kurt Warner. PTL -- what a blessing!

Enjoy your day!!

Nice post. We should hear more about people like this and less about the ones who are usually in the news.
I wonder what restaurants the family eat at.

Missing being in my home town today and Tampa has a lot of good eating places!

Hope you and George have a grand time watching the game and enjoying that delicious-sounding meal. Interesting to read about Kurt and his decision to put Christ first in his life - very uplifting to read about.
Hope the week ahead is a nice one for you two!

Thanks for all your visits.

We aren't interested in football at all and it's not such a big deal here in Canada.

Kurt sounds like a fine young man, we need more like him.

We don't even have a T.V. and can't say as we are big foot ball fans either.

I love the idea of paying for someone's meal. One day we saw this woman in obvious distress in a restaurant ... she was so SAD. I wish we would have thought of something like this ... I just prayed for her from afar.

Well, Betsy, I have to disagree with you. I also think Kurt is a marvelous man, but I gotta pull for the Steelers. But I won't be too disappointed if the Cardinals win.

I'm not a football fan, so I'll probably watch a movie instead. Maybe fold laundry, etc. But that's ok, my weekend has been good so far spending time with two different women friends. Have fun with your game!

I've never been a pro football fan and since the Colts aren't playing I won't watch. Mike will be glued to the set. We may have company...we thought his dad was still without power, but they got it back this morning. Don't know about some friends yet. I have bean and bratwurst soup cooking in the crockpot. Plenty of snacks! I will probably read or quilt or work a puzzle :-)

I've read a lot of good stuff a Kurt Warner. That's really refreshing in today's society.

BTW, I went back and looked at the dancing girl and I could finally see her turning both ways.

I'm not a football fan but my husband Chris is watching the game. I will probably pay attention to the commericals but that's it. Dinner tonight is being cooked by my 23 year old son who came home to do laundry. Marinated flank steak, mashed potatoes and salad.

I'm still chuckling at Dot's comment about wondering where they eat. Funny. We don't follow football, but heard about Kurt Warner through our church. Yes, a fine example of a man. I do hope the Cards win, since we are in Arizona at the present & Patrick was born here.I was born & raised in PA though, so if the Steelers win that's okay too.We are eating buffalo wings tonight though since one of our neighbors just came over with some for us "while we watch the game". (Didn't tell her the tv will be off. She's so sweet.)

Thanks for the info. It helps to know a little background. Enjoy the game.

Hubby is watching the game as I am blogging. Football is his thing - not mine.
Enjoy the game!

My teams did not make it, Betsy. Ravens and Eagles almost made it!

I don't care about the Super Bowl. I'd like to see the Steelers get their arses kicked, though :o)

Well---my Titans weren't playing, so I shouldn't have been so "into" this game. But I was---and will admit that I was SO disappointed that the Cardinals didn't win. It was a good game --and I need to say congrats to all of the Pittsburgh fans. Maybe my Titans will do better next year!!!

Thanks for visiting my blog today. Your comments are so important and I appreciate you!!!

Hugs to all,
Betsy

-Coke--Bugs at a Picnic
-Budweiser--Horse Love

I was going to look up more about Kurt...I was pulling for the Steelers because one of my childhood friends lives in PA. I did get kind of upset with a couple of their players for their unsportsmanlike conduct...even before that I would not have been too upset if the Cardinals had won.

I loved the bugs/coke commercial just cause it was something totally new, and I loved the ones with the Clydesdales.

Not much of a football fan here since my husband died. I went to my daughters house and we made Valentines and went to the thrift store.. I do know that the Steelers won though.

BTW: We call them outhouses too. LOL That one was at the fire lookout tower in Oregon where I spent part of the summer last year. MB

Betsy: Well, my Steelers pulled through in the end. It was a really close game but I think the best team won.

We're not really sports fans around here (unless one of my kids are playing), so I'm totally clueless about teams! However, I know that I like this guy (and his wife because behind every incredible guy is an incredible woman) and I admire them! That's so awesome! Thanks for sharing!

Hi, Betsy - I guess this comment is a little late for the post, but better late than never, huh? Sorry your team didn't win! We aren't football or sports fans at all and I don't know anything about football other than that the GOAL of the game is to get a HOME RUN. (HA!) BUT - if I WAS a fan, I would root for the Steelers simply because for 10 years I lived in Portage, PA, a small town about an hour from Pittsburgh.
My, Kurt sure has his head on straight. That's refreshing to see in an athlete!
